New reviews praise Stripped for Parts as ‘powerful’ and ‘compelling’

Check out the latest review of Stripped for Parts: American Journalism on the Brink, by John Seal for Berkeleyside.

And don’t miss this compelling review by film critic Randy Myers for SFGate!

In the San Francisco Chronicle Date Book, Frances Dinkelspiel calls the film “timely” in her new review.

Bill Berkowitz, in the Daily Kos, writes up the film, noting its unveiling of “predatory hedge funds.”

And, last but not least, Local News Matters calls the film “invigorating” in its detailing of the “ethically questionable business practices” of the hedge fund Alden Global Capital. Check it out here!

Stripped for Parts wins Best Documentary!

Big news! We are delighted to share that Stripped for Parts: American Journalism on the Brink not only made its West Coast premiere this past weekend at the United Nations Association Film Festival, it was selected for the Grand Jury Award for Best Documentary! The film screened before an enthusiastic audience in Palo Alto, with several team members and two of the film’s participants in attendance as well. A true honor to receive the award for Best Documentary, it was equally uplifting to see the film already stoking dialogue and debate around the issue of private equity’s impacts on fundamental institutions like journalism.

Next up: Double Exposure Film Festival in Washington D.C., screening Sunday, Nov. 5 at 3pm. Tell your family and friends in the Washington, D.C.area!

About the film…

Stripped for Parts: American Journalism on the Brink is the story of one secretive hedge fund that is plundering America’s newspapers and the journalists who are fighting back. Investigative reporter Julie Reynolds, Denver Post editorialist Chuck Plunkett and a handful of others, backed by the NewsGuild union, go toe-to-toe with the faceless Alden Global Capital in a battle to save and rebuild local journalism across America. Who will control the future of America’s news ecosystem: Wall Street billionaires concerned only with profit, or those who see journalism as an essential public service and the lifeblood of our democracy?

UPCOMING SCREENINGS: After Double Exposure in D.C., the film makes its way to the St. Louis International Film Festival on Saturday, November 11. Rick will attend in-person to discuss the film at each festival, so be sure to get your tickets before they’re gone.

Don’t forget to follow the film on social media @sforparts to stay updated on screenings and other announcements, and we hope to see you soon at a screening near you!
