Mind/Game to screen at the San Francisco Jewish Film Festival

Join us at SFJFF!A great summer continues with Mind/Game: The Unquiet Journey of Chamique Holdsclaw at the 35th Annual San Francisco Jewish Film Festival (SFJFF)!  SFJFF has screened over 1500 films since its inception in 1980, continually dedicated to presenting narratives, documentaries, live programs and social events that reflect a global approach and full-time dedication to Jewish life and culture.  We are happy to be included in the program in the spirit of “tikkun olam,” the Jewish concept of repairing the world through one’s actions.

  • FREE “Take Action” film panel featuring Rick Goldsmith and other talented filmmakers as they discuss how they have taken a stand through their films.  Join the conversation on Friday, July 31st at 12 p.m. at the historic Castro Theatre in San Francisco
  • MIND/GAME SCREENING on Friday, July 31st at 8:55 p.m. at the Castro Theatre in San Francisco
  • MIND/GAME SCREENING on Saturday, August 1st at 8:55 p.m. at the California Theater in Berkeley

Announcing Mind/Game’s Bay Area premiere at Frameline in San Francisco

Mind/Game: The Unquiet Journey of Chamique Holdsclaw will celebrate its Bay Area debut at Frameline, the 39th Annual San Francisco International LGBTQ Film Festival!  Frameline is the largest and longest-running LGBTQ film festival in the world.  Our screening is on Friday, June 26th at 9:30 p.m. at the Roxie Theater in San Francisco’s Mission District.  The film will follow a 7-minute short, “Gold Star,” by Igor Yankilevich.

Mind/Game will be part of a special festival spotlight on “Sexuality and Sports.”  Frameline39 will present 16 films featuring diverse representations of LGBTQ competitors from all walks of life who find affirmation being their authentic selves on and off the courts.  For more information on this special grouping, click HERE.

MIND/GAME wins Audience Award in Nashville!

We are pleased to announce that Mind/Game: The Unquiet Journey of Chamique Holdsclaw received the “Freedom to Choose Southwest Airlines Audience Award” in the Tennessee First Feature Film Competition at the 2015 Nashville Film Festival.  Mind/Game was also the runner-up for the Audience Award in the “Documentary” category.  Thank you to everyone who came out to watch and support this powerful story!

Announcing the WORLD PREMIERE of MIND/GAME!

The WORLD PREMIERE of Mind/Game: The Unquiet Journey of Chamique Holdsclaw will take place on April 17, 2015 at the 46th Annual Nashville Film Festival!

Founded in 1969, NaFF has been voted one of “25 film festivals worth the entry fee” by MovieMaker Magazine. Brooks Institute named it one of the top 5 film festivals in the U.S.

We are so excited to debut the film in Tennessee–Chamique’s second home during her incredible career as a Lady Volunteer!  Director Rick Goldsmith and Chamique will both be present.

The film’s premiere will take place at 7:45 p.m. at the Regal Green Hills Cinema.

A follow-up screening is scheduled at the same location for Friday, April 24, at 4:00 p.m.

Chamique shares her story in response to Robin Williams’ passing

After the suicide of beloved actor and comedian Robin Williams, scores of stories regarding mental health issues began circulating the internet; Chamique participated by contributing her own experiences. Ebony Magazine published a piece in its “Wellness and Empowerment” section, where writer Mame M. Kwayie shares Chamique’s struggles with depression and bipolar disorder and the tactics she has used to nurture her mental health since her diagnoses.

Mind/Game awarded grant by Berkeley Film Foundation

The Berkeley Film Foundation recently announced their list of 2014 grant awardees, which includes Mind/Game: The Unquiet Journey of Chamique Holdsclaw!

We are proud to be included in the community of filmmakers they support. Congratulations to our fellow awardees and best of luck on your projects!

The Berkeley Film Foundation has supported local independent filmmakers with grants since 2009. Their grants are funded by the City of Berkeley, Wareham Development, and the Saul Zaentz Company “with a mission to nurture, sustain and preserve the thriving Berkeley film community while attracting the next generation of filmmakers.”

Daniel Ellsberg billboards in DC call on whistleblowers

On July 9, more than a dozen six-foot billboards featuring Daniel Ellsberg, the subject of Most Dangerous Man in America, went up in DC.  According to the nonprofit Institute for Public Accuracy, which broke the news, “13 billboards have gone up near Capitol Hill, the Justice Department, the White House, the Government Accountability Office, the Defense Intelligence Agency, the State Department, a popular bookstore at Dupont Circle and other prominent locations.”

The billboards feature a quote from Ellsberg and information about ExposeFacts.org, a website launched last month that encourages whistleblowers to submit materials and documents on “concealed activities that are relevant to human rights, corporate malfeasance, the environment, civil liberties and war” via its “SecureDrop” software. The ExposeFacts editorial board then reviews the materials and vets them before deciding on whether to release them to the public.

Chamique featured in Sports Illustrated’s “Where Are They Now?”

Sports Illustrated’s Andrew Lawrence brings readers up to speed on Chamique’s life since her 2012 incident with the law and her diagnosis of bipolar II disorder in 2013. Lawrence writes that Chamique hopes to make mental health issues “the cornerstone of her non-profit organization that will focus on building mental health wellness programs and expand her audience beyond the faith-based groups in the southeast with whom she frequently visits.”

SLAM Magazine catches up with Chamique and Mind/Game

SLAM Cover SLAM Magazine featured Chamique in October 1998 when she was a senior at the University of Tennessee, soon to be picked number one overall in the WNBA draft the next year. Chamique was the first female to grace their cover and remains the ONLY female to have had the privilege. The Nathan Cummings Foundation

The Nathan Cummings Foundation recently awarded Kovno Communications a grant to assist with the production of Mind/Game: The Unquiet Journey of Chamique Holdsclaw. This grant was made possible by the generosity and encouragement of Richard Cummings and Roberta Friedman Cummings.

The Nathan Cummings Foundation “is rooted in the Jewish tradition and committed to democratic values and social justice, including fairness, diversity, and community.” Its namesake was the founder of the Sara Lee Corporation and his legacy is carried on largely by family. In its mission statement, the foundation declares its objective to “build a socially and economically just society that values nature and protects the ecological balance for future generations; promotes humane health care; and fosters arts and culture that enriches communities.”
